Claire Billingsley

Bio

I am a ceramic artist hand building in stoneware clay making functional and sculptural work for the home and garden. I predominately use grogged clays that are beneficial for building larger pieces of work and I fire at high temperatures which allows my creations to happily live outdoors. I enjoy making a variety of objects, some whimsical and others with more purpose. I limit my use of glazes, preferring under-glaze colours and oxides. I studied ceramics at Cardiff College of HE at degree level before becoming an artist in residence for two years at two different schools. This led to teaching Art and Design for 19 years at King’s Gloucester, where I was Head of Department for 16 years. However, I wanted to focus on my own creativity, so I bravely made the decision to follow my dream, to become a full-time artist and here I am with no regrets!
