“This garden has completely restored my peace” T.C.
The Garden
The Wye Valley Sculpture is the vision of artist Gemma Kate Wood which is an accumulation of a shared vision stretching over three generations.
The story reaches back to the 1950’s, to an organically run small-holding set up by her grandparents.
Inspired by their reverence for the natural world, her parents- who are both botanists and ecologists- have been collecting plants and growing this garden for over 40 years.
We still hold true to that Organic, Sustainable vison. In 2018 the Garden won a Sustainable Venue award.
SITE
The Garden sits nestled upon the ancient wooded slopes of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty providing an ever-changing backdrop of colour and texture throughout the season.
Today the garden is about 3 acres and is made up of formal lawns surrounded by abundant herbaceous borders, a pond, woodland areas, Snowdrop wood, an orchard and meadows which all provide a rich habitat for wildlife.
“We are so privileged to live in such a special place”
Today
The Wye Valley Sculpture Garden annually hosts one of Wales' largest outdoor Summer Sculpture Exhibitions and is one of the top things to see in Tintern and the Wye vVlley.
Artists, writers and poets have always come to marvel at the picturesque landscape of the Wye Valley, so it seems only fitting that today we are able continue that legacy and exhibit great works in this setting. We very much want to put art back on the map in the Wye Valley and in Wales as a place that people come to view and purchase art.
We celebrate Art, Plants and Wildlife in equal measure providing a beautiful backdrop for artists to exhibit their work and for people to relax in and for a while step away from their busy lives.
The exhibition is open from June to mid-September on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
We serve homemade refreshments and on most Sunday afternoons you will be accompanied by the gentle acoustic guitar music of Simon Cottle that adds an additional dimension to the visitor experience
A garden for all seasons, do not forget our ever-popular snowdrop open days in February where many of the lawns turn into white drifts of winter cheer.
The garden has two main seasonal events
- Spring we have and extensive snowdrop display that is open to the public to bring in some seasonal cheer.
- Summer Sculpture Exhibition, where once again she will be inviting a selection of artists to exhibit with her this summer.
