Bio
I am based near Taunton, Somerset and produce sculpture predominantly in wood and metal. With a background in forestry, chainsaw sculpture was a natural outlet for my early creativity. The smell of two stroke and raw power of a chainsaw never leaves you but over the years my designs and skills have evolved, incorporating metal alongside wood. I love to explore the contrast and conflict between these two mediums. I enjoy playing with the organic nature of wood set against the industrial qualities of metalwork. Through sweat, sawdust and sparks the two materials offer endless possibilities of shape and form to create exciting opportunities for sculpture. Working in forestry in the wonderful landscape of the Quantocks and Exmoor gives me inspiration for my art not to mention an abundant source of offcuts and unique timber to transform into exciting projects. My work is primarily nature based. Micro fragments of beauty fascinate me. From the wing detail of a dragonfly to the intricate patterns of a flower petal, I love to supersize these to a tangible scale and celebrate them in my sculpture.
