Renee Kilburn

Bio
Renée Kilburn is a professional ceramic artist.
Originally from Sweden, she moved to England in 1994 to pursue her studies in Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London.

After completing her studies, Renée decided to remain in the UK.
She currently resides in Weston-Super-Mare, where she continues to develop her craft.
Renée is known for creating unique, brightly glazed ceramic pieces. Her process begins with forming a basic shape using techniques such as coiling, slab building, or press moulding.

Renée adds hand-modelled details to each piece, giving them a sense of movement. Rather than
attempting to replicate nature exactly, her aim is to evoke a smile in the viewer—similar to the joy
experienced when encountering the vibrant colours and forms found in nature.

Renée works primarily with high-fired white stoneware clay. This choice of material ensures that every
piece is frost proof and suitable for outdoor display. Each detail is meticulously hand painted with shiny,
brightly coloured glazes, which bring the pieces to life during the third and final firing.
This is a technique uniquely developed by Renée over the past 30 years.
