Sarah Mae Francis
BIO
I’m Sarah Mae Francis, a metal sculpture artist from Rossendale, Lancashire. I started welding when I was 16 years old. My father gave me a very brief lesson in welding before letting me loose to start creating on my own.
I have always had an interest in art and design. I started with drawing and painting throughout my school years, however I was more interested in sculpture. I studied a Diploma in Art and Design in high school and college but felt I couldn’t progress in this field of work as the tutors weren’t equipped to teach it, so I taught myself by looking at other metal sculpture artists for inspiration, and my designs are based on my love for animals and nature.
I also love the idea of helping items live on. In most of my sculptures I have incorporated old tools that would have had a value to someone, and with the rapid evolution of technology they are now considered redundant and scrap. “One mans trash is another mans treasure”.
