Teresa Wells

Bio
I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University in 1996 and completed postgraduate studies at Loughborough University, where I was taught by John Atkin FRBS and Dan Archer FRBS. My practice spans large-scale sculpture up to four metres high as well as more intimate works around 30 cm, using mixed media. My work is inspired by the dynamic movement of the human body, particularly that of athletes and dancers, and the expressive forms these movements create. Originally trained as an illustrator, I work in a Baroque style and draw influence from artists including Bernini, Anthony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Cathy de Monchaux, Leonardo da Vinci and Grayson Perry. I currently work primarily in bronze, often placing figurative forms in precarious positions supported by strong geometric steel structures. I am a multi award-winning sculptor, including Runner Up for the Blunden Prize 2023, Best in Show at APT Deptford 2015 (nominated by Richard Deacon CBE), Silver Gilt at the Chelsea Flower Show 2022 and Gold at Blenheim 2021. My work is sold through UK gallery platforms and held in both public and private collections. I undertake commissioned work for clients including Juliet Sargeant, Blue Peter, BBC1, Netflix, the Robert T. Webb Sculpture Park (USA), Stonewater Housing Ltd and various private clients. My work has been featured by the BBC, The Times, London Live and Netflix.
